The Artist

BIO

My very first pet, at the age of five, was a chicken whom I loved so much that I decided I wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up. It wasn't until sixth grade, when I took my first art class and my very personalized drawing made it into an art show at school (every kid made it but still!), that I thought maybe I wanted to be an artist when I grew up instead. When I had the freedom to sign up for my own electives in high school, as much as I wanted to sign up for animal related classes, all the art classes where screaming my name. I was hooked on photography and I haven't put down my camera since. Something about holding an SLR camera in my hands, it felt like it was the key to the world! I could be exaggerating a little but thats ok.

My name is Jacqueline Andrade, born in Guanajuato, Mexico and raised in a small town south of Houston, Texas. Although I moved to Texas at the age of two, I continue to visit my home in Mexico almost every year where a lot of my personal series, Mi Familia, is based in. Houston is also my home, it's my city, from it’s skyline & outskirts to it's hell like summers, I have very slowly grown very attached to this place. I became a forever cougar in 2016 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Photo & Digital Media from the University of Houston. I developed the love for the documentary style narrative with cinematography during my years at UH. I enjoy collaborating with different types of artists from all around the Houston area to make art. I still love animals and hope to become more involved with their protection and care than I am today.

Houston is great but the world is even better. I am an adventure seeker and dream to reach people with my art work from all over the world. When I started college I made it my goal to travel to Europe after graduation. After roughly 12 hours on a plane from IAH  to Rome, Italy, I found myself in disbelief, leaping with joy in front of the Colosseum because I was living my dreams.

All this being said, the style of my portraits is heavily inspired by nature, travel and relationships. If I am all that you could imagine in your photographer then lets start a conversation!
